Skipton Visitor Guide
The beautiful market town of Skipton is known as the 'Gateway to the Dales' due to its proximity to the breathtaking landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The impressive 11th-century Skipton Castle stands at the top of the town, and proudly overlooks the award-winning High Street, which offers a mix of independent and national shops.
Skipton High Street was recently voted top High Street in the UK, beating the likes of Kensington High Street. It hosts a 4-days per week street market, with stalls ranging from handicrafts to fruit and vegetables. A short walk away is Skipton Woods, a must for nature lovers. The woods are home to an array of wildlife and there are fantastic seasonal displays and sculptures to be discovered.
Meandering through the town is the Leeds-Liverpool Canal. Take a regular trip boat for for a relaxing way of exploring Skipton and the surrounding scenery or drive yourself on a day-boat hire. Back on dry land, the Millennium Walk is a special route showcasing some of the town’s main attractions, including the canal, castle, and some hidden beauty spots.
